Sustainability

Our philosophy has always been to build the best and most sustainable product possible. We create products that are designed to last and include the innovation needed to achieve something fully sustainable.

The love of the sea and respect for the environment is at the heart of the Chimborazo philosophy, and is our first inspiration.

We are a growing brand so everything we do and all the decisions we make inevitably have an impact on the environment.

As a company, we strive to keep our footprint and impact on the planet to a minimum.

And we do much more: part of our proceeds is donated to the research of marine biology in the Italian Marine Protected Areas. In 2018 the Marine Protected Area of Portofino, in 2019 the Marine Protected Area of Torre Guaceto.

Recycling

Our products (Collection 2019) are manufactured using recycled plastic from PET bottles. PET is a polyethylene terephthalate, a type of plastic derived from petroleum used to produce drink or food containers. Using recycled PET bottles, we create recycled PET polyester. The quality of recycled polyester is as good as virgin polyester, has a quick drying time, is easy to wash and is extremely durable.

Over the last 50 years, plastic consumption has increased 20-fold – from 15 million tonnes in 1964 to around 300 million tonnes. This figure is estimated to double by 2025.

Approximately 10 million tonnes of plastic waste enter the oceans annually, the equivalent of a load of rubbish being thrown into the sea every minute. Plastic waste has reached continent-sized proportions; it is estimated that by 2050 there will be more plastic than fish in the ocean. It will take centuries to decompose this waste; 450 to 700 years for PET bottles alone.
